Environmental Benefit

Bald Hills Wind Farm will comprise of 52 turbines of 2MW capacity each, giving it a total capacity of 104MW. It is expected to produce 335,100 MWh of electricity per year, based on the long term average forecast wind data.

This is the equivalent of meeting the electricity requirements of over 62,000 homes—over four and a half times the homes in the South Gippsland Shire (based on 2006 census data).

As a long term average:

  • The wind farm should avoid up to to 335,000 tonnes of CO2e emissions per annum.
  • This amount of electricity is the equivalent of taking over 77,000 cars off the road each year.
  • It also represents planting over half a million trees each year.

The wind farm is a practical demonstration of the progressive attitude towards climate change and symbolises regional Victoria’s efforts to combat this situation.

It is timely for all of us to consider what we can do to reduce the effects of climate change. The generation of renewable energy is one way to reduce our impact on the environment.
